BeanBoozled Challenge: How to Play the Gross Bean Game
Posted by Whole And Natural · 16th Oct 2026
Ten jelly beans look perfectly normal. Half of them taste like Juicy Pear, Toasted Marshmallow or Berry Blue. The other half taste like Booger, Stink Bug and Toothpaste. You can't tell which is which until you bite. That's the whole idea behind the Jelly Belly BeanBoozled challenge, the jelly bean game that has filled the internet with screaming, gagging and laughing reaction videos. Here's how to play it, what every bean might taste like, and how to turn it into the best five minutes of your next party.
What is BeanBoozled?
BeanBoozled is a mix of Jelly Belly jelly beans made in lookalike pairs. Each color comes in two versions: one delicious, one disgusting. They're the same shade and the same speckle pattern, so looks won't save you. The 7th Edition box has 10 pairs, which means 20 flavors in total, and it comes with the famous spinner.
Every BeanBoozled flavor is a real candy flavor, so the "gross" ones are safe to eat. They just taste exactly like what the label says. Yes, including Barf.
The 7th Edition flavor pairs
These are the current official pairs, straight from the box. Pick a bean, say a prayer:
- Juicy Pear or Booger
- Tutti-Fruitti or Stinky Socks
- Toasted Marshmallow or Stink Bug
- Berry Blue or Toothpaste
- Top Banana or Wet Dog (new this edition)
- Licorice or Burnt Rubber (new this edition)
- Strawberry Banana Smoothie or Dead Fish
- Pomegranate or Old Bandage
- Cappuccino or Liver & Onions
- Sweet Peach or Barf

How to play the BeanBoozled challenge
The spinner gift box comes with everything you need. The rules take about ten seconds to learn:
- Spin. Flick the spinner. It lands on one of the lookalike pairs.
- Pick. Grab a bean of that color from the box. No sniffing, no nibbling the edge.
- Eat the whole thing. Chew it fully before you decide what it was. Spitting it out is a forfeit.
- Confess. Tell the group which flavor you got. The faces usually give it away.
- Pass the spinner. Next player. Last person who hasn't quit wins.
House rule we like: keep score. A good flavor is one point, a bad one is two points if you kept a straight face.
Harry Potter Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans: the original dare
If BeanBoozled is the game, Harry Potter Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans are the legend. Jelly Belly makes the real-life version of the wizard-world candy, and the 1.2 oz box holds 20 flavors with no safe pairs and no spinner, just a flavor guide on the side of the box and a lot of trust issues.
The good ones: Banana, Blueberry, Candyfloss, Cherry, Cinnamon, Green Apple, Lemon, Marshmallow, Tutti-Fruitti and Watermelon. The ones that make the box famous: Black Pepper, Booger, Dirt, Earthworm, Earwax, Grass, Rotten Egg, Sausage, Soap and, naturally, Vomit.
They're perfect for a movie-marathon night, a themed birthday party, stocking stuffers or a wizard-world gift basket. Mix a few boxes into a BeanBoozled game for a round where every single bean is a gamble.

Party, Halloween, sleepover and game-night ideas
- Halloween dare station: set the spinner box next to the candy bowl. Trick-or-treaters (and parents) spin for a bean before they take the good stuff.
- Sleepover tournament: everyone gets a 1.6 oz box, last one still eating wins a prize.
- Game-night tiebreaker: tied at the end of the night? Spin to settle it.
- Classroom and youth-group rewards: the bags and refill boxes are easy to hand out one at a time.
- Gift it: a spinner box or a Bertie Bott's box is the rare under-$10 gift that gets opened on the spot.
Tips for filming your own reaction video
The best BeanBoozled videos are simple. A phone, a friend and good lighting beat any fancy setup.
- Film vertical (9:16) so it's ready for TikTok, Reels and Shorts.
- Show the spin, then the bean, then the face. Close-ups of the face are the whole video.
- Keep the camera rolling. The best reactions come three seconds after people think it's over.
- Say the pair out loud before biting. "Juicy Pear or Booger?" gives viewers something to guess.
- Have water nearby and a trash can off-camera. You'll want both.
- Tag us if you share it. We love seeing the faces.
