The active ingredient in Kirkland Signature Stool Softener is Docusate Sodium 100 mg.
It works as a stimulant-free stool softener (laxative) to gently relieve occasional constipation, generally producing a bowel movement in 12 to 72 hours.

Constipation occurs when the colon absorbs too much water. This can be brought on by a range of factors, including but not limited to:
• Strong medications, especially narcotics, antidepressants and iron pills

• Too much dairy
• Sedentary lifestyle
• Stress
• Pregnancy

If you have fewer than three bowel movements a week, stools that are hard, dry, or lumpy, difficulty passing stool or feeling that not all stool has passed, you may be constipated. Less than one bowel movement a week is considered severe constipation.
